Lovage is a beautiful and tasty addition to any garden. Lovage is similar in taste to celery so it makes a wonderful substitute. Lovage is also a perennial which makes it a winner in my book.

How to Grow

Growing lovage from seeds is a relatively easy process. The first step is to select a location with full sun exposure. Lovage thrives in well-drained soil with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5. Once you have identified a suitable location, prepare the soil by removing any weeds and debris and loosening the soil. Next, sow the lovage seeds in the prepared soil at a depth of 1/4 inch. Keep the soil consistently moist but not saturated until the seeds germinate, which usually takes 2-3 weeks. Once the seedlings have emerged, thin them to a distance of 18-24 inches apart from each other. Lovage plants require regular watering, especially during dry spells. Fertilize the plants with a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Harvest the lovage leaves as needed throughout the growing season by cutting them off at the base of the stem. Lovage leaves can be used fresh or dried for culinary purposes. The stems and roots of the plant can also be harvested for medicinal purposes.
