North GA Candy Roaster; What a Great Squash

So this year we added a wonderful squash plant to our little farm. It's called the North GA Candy Roaster and it's quite good! It is such an aggressive grower; it was growing into the pea patch, up the tomato trellis, into the watermelons and into the marigold bed as you can see below!

But it truly is a beautiful plant. It looks and grows more like a pumpkin since it has very long vines! Some vines reaching up to 20 feet and many, many vines. It's also prolific with tons of flowers! We grew marigolds into the mix and so glad we did because it really helped with pollination. The squash itself grows much like a banana squash in size and length. They can reach up to 15 pounds and have a beautiful splash of green on the end.

We are hoping to have some seeds to sell soon. They are a great tasting squash. We actually made a pie with one of these squash. The squash weighed over 7 pounds! We have some to make a pie and also to freeze. The pie was similar pumpkin pie and it was terrific. So it makes a great substitute for pumpkin dishes. They also store well and will last well into the winter. So all around very pleased with this guy!

Well I'll update once we have some seeds dry for next year.
