This is a wonderful old Italian heirloom kale, aka dinosaur kale. Very primitive open type growing kale that grows leaves that are 3 inches wide up to 18 inches long! This is a winter variety kale that proves better tasting after hard frost. Or you can harvest the leaves when young and much more tender.

How to Save Seeds

Most kales are part of the Brassica oleracea family which includes broccoli, cabbage, kale, and brussel sprouts so separate by 1 mile . Siberian kale is an exception it is not part of this family. Mulch kale to last over winter. Kale will go to seed following year; collect dry seed pods.
