How to Grow

Once you've found a suitable spot, you can start preparing the soil. Sweet marjoram seeds prefer soil that is slightly alkaline with a pH between 6.7 and 7.0. You can add some lime to the soil to raise the pH if it's too acidic. Next, you can sow the seeds in the soil. Sweet marjoram seeds are tiny, so you will need to be careful when handling them. Sow the seeds about 1/8 inch deep in the soil and cover them with a light layer of soil. Water the soil gently with a watering can or hose, being careful not to wash away the seeds. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. You can cover the soil with a plastic wrap or a clear plastic lid to help retain moisture and warmth. Sweet marjoram seeds usually germinate within 7 to 14 days. Once the seedlings emerge, you can remove the plastic wrap or lid and move the pots or seedlings to a sunny spot. As the plants grow, you can start thinning them out to give them more space to grow. You can also fertilize the plants every few weeks with a balanced fertilizer to promote healthy growth.
