This watermelon is part of the Cucurbitaceae family, which includes other melons, cucumbers, and squash. One of its most notable features is its striped green rind, which resembles the pattern of a rattlesnake’s skin—hence the name.
Georgia Rattlesnake watermelons can grow to impressive sizes, often reaching weights of 30 pounds or more; they are typically oblong, measuring up to 24 inches in length. The flesh inside is bright red and very sweet, making it a favorite for summer picnics and gatherings.
