How to grow
Borage prefers full sun but can also tolerate partial shade. Make sure the soil is well-drained and fertile. You can sow borage seeds directly in the ground in the spring or start them indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost. Plant the seeds ¼ inch deep and 12-18 inches apart. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Borage doesn't like to dry out, so make sure to water it regularly. Borage doesn't require heavy fertilizer, but you can add some compost or slow-release fertilizer to the soil before planting. Borage leaves and flowers are edible and have a cucumber-like flavor. You can start harvesting the leaves once the plant reaches 6-8 inches tall. The flowers will bloom in mid-summer and attract pollinators to your garden.
