How to Save Seeds

Cucumbers readily cross-pollinate with other cucumber varieties, so isolation by at least one-quarter mile is recommended for maintaining seed purity.

Allow cucumbers to remain on the vine well past the eating stage until they become oversized and often turn white or yellow.

Harvest mature fruits and allow them to cure for approximately 20 days before extracting seeds. Cut cucumbers vertically and scoop the seeds and pulp into a mason jar with water for fermentation.

After fermenting for 5 to 7 days, remove floating debris and mold, strain the healthy seeds, and dry them thoroughly on screens or paper towels, turning regularly before storing in a cool dry location.
