★ Organically grown on our farm
Cherokee Purple Tomato is a legendary heirloom variety treasured for its rich sweet flavor, deep reddish-purple color, and remarkable history believed to trace back to the Cherokee people of Tennessee. This unique tomato has earned a devoted following among gardeners and chefs alike due to its complex old-fashioned flavor and beautifully dark fruits.
The large meaty tomatoes offer a rich balanced taste with exceptional sweetness and subtle smoky undertones, making them outstanding for fresh eating, slicing, salads, sandwiches, and gourmet dishes. Their juicy texture and deep coloration create a striking presentation while delivering one of the finest flavor profiles found among heirloom tomatoes.
Cherokee Purple Tomato thrives in warm sunny conditions with fertile well-drained soil rich in organic matter. The vigorous indeterminate vines continue producing throughout the growing season until frost and benefit greatly from sturdy stakes or cages to support the heavy fruit production. Consistent watering and mulching help maintain healthy vigorous growth while reducing weed competition and moisture loss.
Beautiful, historic, and exceptionally flavorful, Cherokee Purple Tomato remains one of the most beloved heirloom tomato varieties for gardeners seeking outstanding fresh flavor and rich gardening tradition.

How to Save Seeds
Tomatoes are self-pollinating, so separating varieties by approximately 50 feet is generally sufficient for maintaining seed purity.
Harvest ripe tomatoes and allow them to sit for several days if desired before processing seeds.
Cut tomatoes in half and scoop seeds and pulp into a mason jar with a small amount of water. Cover loosely and place in a warm location away from direct sunlight for 5-7 days to ferment.
After fermentation, remove mold and floating debris, then pour the remaining healthy seeds through a fine mesh strainer. Dry seeds thoroughly on paper towels or mesh screens, turning regularly to prevent sticking before storing in a cool dry location.

Wonderful
When looking for our seeds for this year, my husband and I wanted to prioritize a few things 1. Christian, 2. non-GMO/organic, 3. family owned 4. high quality. We were delighted to check every box with South Ga Seed Co. We were impressed with the variety of seeds, packaging, shipping time, and personalized note when our package arrived. We haven’t reaped the benefits of planting the seeds yet- but with the experience thus far we expect great yields!
