How to Grow Bitter Candytuft

Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil for best growth and flowering. Bitter Candytuft prefers at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily but can tolerate partial shade in warmer climates.

Before planting, prepare the soil by incorporating compost or organic matter to improve fertility and drainage. This plant performs best in slightly acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5.

Sow seeds directly outdoors in early spring after the danger of frost has passed. Plant seeds approximately 1/4 inch deep and space them about 6 inches apart. Water gently and keep the soil consistently moist during germination.

Once seedlings emerge, thin plants to approximately 12 inches apart to allow proper airflow and healthy growth. Water regularly but avoid overwatering, as overly wet soil may lead to root rot.

Fertilize monthly during the growing season using a balanced fertilizer to encourage vigorous flowering. Deadheading spent blooms can also help prolong flowering and keep plants looking tidy throughout the season.

With minimal care, Bitter Candytuft will reward gardeners with masses of fragrant white blooms that brighten the garden and attract beneficial pollinators all season long.
