How to grow

Marigolds are cheerful, easy-to-grow flowers that are perfect for adding color to any garden. If you’re interested in growing marigolds, here’s what you need to know. First, choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Marigolds prefer full sun, which means they need at least six hours of direct sunlight every day. They also don’t like wet feet, so make sure the soil drains well. Next, plant your marigold seeds or seedlings. You can sow seeds directly in the garden after the last spring frost, or you can start them indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost. If you’re using seedlings, plant them after the last frost date for your area,  Water your marigolds regularly, but don’t over-water them. They prefer slightly dry soil, so wait until the top inch of soil is dry before watering again. Finally, deadhead your marigolds regularly. This means removing the spent blooms to encourage more flowers to grow. You can also pinch back the stem tips to encourage bushier growth. With a little love and care, your marigolds will bloom all summer long, attracting bees and other pollinators to your garden.
