How to Save Seeds
Melons will cross pollinate with other melon varieties but will not cross with cucumbers, squash, or watermelons. Muskmelons and watermelons belong to separate plant families and do not naturally cross.
For maintaining seed purity, isolate different melon varieties by at least 1/4 mile whenever possible.
Allow melons to fully ripen on the vine before harvesting for seed saving. Once harvested, let the fruits cure for several days in a dry protected area.
After curing, cut the melons open and scoop out the seeds. Rinse the seeds thoroughly to remove pulp and debris, then spread them out on paper towels or mesh screens to dry completely.
Turn the seeds occasionally while drying to ensure proper airflow and even drying. Once fully dry, store the seeds in labeled airtight containers or envelopes in a cool dry location for future planting.
