Henderson's bush lima bean is a cultivar belonging to the legume family, Fabaceae; it is known for its compact size and ease of cultivation. This variety, originally developed by the Henderson Seed Company in the late 19th century, is well-suited for home gardens due to its bushy growth habit that eliminates the need for trellising. The plant produces small, creamy-white beans that are rich in protein and fiber, making them a nutritious addition to a variety of dishes.

Harvesting typically occurs about 65-75 days after planting when the pods are plump and firm; pick them regularly to encourage continuous production. These beans can be enjoyed fresh, or they can be dried for long-term storage. Henderson's bush lima beans are versatile in the kitchen; they can be used in soups, stews, salads, and casseroles, providing a creamy texture and mild flavor that complements a wide range of ingredients.

 How to Save Seeds

Limas can readily cross with other limas, so if you plan on growing to different varieties you must separate by at least one mile. Harvest when completely dried out, shell, and discard trash.
