How to Save Seeds

Melons will readily cross-pollinate with other melon varieties but will not cross with cucumbers, squash, or watermelons. To maintain varietal purity, isolate different melon varieties by at least one-quarter mile whenever possible.

Select fully mature fruits from healthy plants for seed saving. Once harvested, allow the melons to cure for several days in a protected location to ensure the seeds have fully matured.

After curing, cut the melon open and scoop out the seed cavity. Separate the seeds from the surrounding pulp and rinse them thoroughly in water to remove any remaining residue.

Spread the cleaned seeds on a screen or paper in a well-ventilated area and allow them to dry completely. Once fully dry, store the seeds in a cool, dry location for future planting.
