The Oxeye Daisy, scientifically known as Leucanthemum vulgare, is a cheerful and classic wildflower admired for its bright white petals and sunny yellow centers. Native to Europe and Asia, this beloved perennial has naturalized throughout many parts of the world and is commonly found growing in meadows, fields, roadsides, and cottage gardens.

Blooming from late spring through early fall, Oxeye Daisies create beautiful naturalized displays that attract bees, butterflies, and other important pollinators. Their simple yet elegant blooms sway gracefully above green foliage, adding charm and brightness to both wild landscapes and cultivated gardens.

This hardy perennial can grow up to 3 feet tall and thrives in sunny locations with well-drained soil. Known for its resilience and adaptability, Oxeye Daisy is easy to grow and requires very little maintenance once established.

Oxeye Daisy is commonly used in wildflower meadows, pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, and fresh-cut floral arrangements. However, due to its vigorous spreading habit, it is considered invasive in certain regions and should be managed responsibly where applicable.

How to Grow Oxeye Daisy

Choose a sunny planting location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Oxeye Daisies thrive in well-drained soil and benefit from soil amended with compost or peat moss to improve texture and fertility.

Sow seeds directly outdoors in early spring after the danger of frost has passed. Scatter the seeds evenly over the soil surface and lightly cover them with a thin layer of soil. Water gently after planting to avoid disturbing the seeds.

Keep the soil consistently moist during germination, but avoid waterlogged conditions. Once seedlings are several inches tall, thin them to approximately 12 inches apart to allow room for mature growth and airflow.

Feed plants monthly during the growing season using a balanced fertilizer to support healthy foliage and abundant flowering. Deadheading spent blooms can encourage continued flowering and help manage self-seeding if desired.

With proper care, Oxeye Daisies will reward gardeners with months of cheerful blooms while attracting beneficial pollinators and adding timeless wildflower beauty to the landscape.
