Rattlesnake pole bean is a striking heirloom climbing bean variety admired for its beautiful green pods streaked with deep purple markings resembling the patterned skin of a rattlesnake. This visually stunning heirloom not only adds ornamental beauty to the garden but also delivers exceptional productivity and delicious versatile harvests throughout the growing season.

The long tender pods are crisp, flavorful, and excellent when harvested young for fresh eating, steaming, sautéing, soups, and salads. If allowed to fully mature, the pods can also be dried and shelled for storage beans, making this variety highly versatile for both fresh and dry use in the kitchen.

Rattlesnake pole beans produce vigorous climbing vines that can easily reach up to ten feet tall when provided with sturdy trellises or supports. The plants thrive in fertile well-drained soil with full sunlight and consistent watering throughout the season. Their vigorous growth, ornamental pods, and dependable harvests make them especially popular among home gardeners and heirloom collectors.

Beautiful, productive, and exceptionally versatile, Rattlesnake pole bean remains one of the finest heirloom pole beans for gardeners seeking abundant harvests and eye-catching garden beauty.

How to Save Seeds

Beans are primarily self-pollinating, though occasional crossing can occur between nearby varieties. If growing different bean colors together, observe harvested seeds carefully for signs of crossing.

For greater seed purity, separate varieties by approximately 150 feet whenever possible.

Allow pods to fully dry on the vines before harvesting. After harvest, spread pods out for an additional week of curing to ensure seeds are completely dry.

Once cured, shell the beans, remove debris, and store seeds in a cool dry location for future planting.
