Sugar Ann Snap Pea is a delicious heirloom snap pea variety prized for its exceptionally sweet flavor, crisp edible pods, and early harvests. This compact bush variety is a favorite among gardeners due to its easy growing habit, productivity, and ability to thrive in cooler weather.

Unlike traditional shelling peas, Sugar Ann Snap Peas are harvested and enjoyed whole with their tender pods. Their crunchy texture and naturally sweet flavor make them excellent for fresh snacking, salads, stir-fries, steaming, and vegetable trays.

This early-maturing variety is often ready for harvest in as little as 50 to 55 days, providing one of the first fresh garden harvests of the season. The compact bushy plants are ideal for raised beds, small gardens, containers, and homesteads while still producing generous yields.

How to Save Seeds

Sugar Ann Snap Peas are primarily self-pollinating, so separating varieties by approximately 50 feet is generally sufficient for maintaining seed purity.

Allow pods to remain on the plant until they turn fully brown and dry. Mature seeds will rattle inside the pods when ready for harvest.

Some growers choose to pull entire plants and allow them to continue drying in a protected location before shelling, though this step is optional.

Once fully dry, shell the peas from the pods and store the seeds in labeled envelopes or airtight containers in a cool dry location until future planting.
