How to Grow
****Please note comfrey needs cold stratification before planting. If your planting in the spring place the seeds in the fridge for at least 30 days before planting or wait and plant in the fall.****
First, it's important to note that comfrey can be a bit tricky to grow from seeds. While the plant is relatively easy to propagate from cuttings or root divisions, growing it from seeds can be challenging. This is because the seeds have a very low germination rate, and they also have a short shelf life. Once you have your seeds, you'll need to prepare a planting area. Comfrey prefers well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. It also prefers full sun to partial shade. To plant your seeds, simply scatter them over the prepared soil, and then cover them with a thin layer of soil. Water the soil gently, being careful not to wash away the seeds. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and be patient. It may take several weeks or even months for the seeds to germinate. Once they do, you can expect your comfrey plants to grow quickly and vigorously.
