Virginia Jumbo Peanuts are a classic heirloom peanut variety celebrated for their exceptionally large kernels, rich nutty flavor, and satisfying crunch. Often referred to as the "gourmet peanut," this variety has long been prized for premium roasting, snacking, and culinary use.

Traditionally grown in the sandy soils of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, Virginia Jumbo Peanuts thrive in warm climates with loose well-drained soil. Their large size and excellent flavor make them especially popular for roasted peanuts, boiled peanuts, homemade peanut butter, candies, and gourmet snack mixes.

These vigorous plants produce abundant underground pods and are an excellent addition to homesteads, kitchen gardens, and small farms. In addition to their delicious flavor, peanuts also enrich the soil by naturally fixing nitrogen, making them a valuable rotational crop in sustainable gardening systems.

Virginia Jumbo Peanuts offer gardeners and growers a rewarding harvest of flavorful nutritious nuts with strong historical ties to American agriculture.

How to Save Seeds

To save peanut seeds, begin by harvesting fully mature peanut pods once the plants have yellowed and the pods have fully developed underground.

After harvesting, allow the pods to dry in a warm dry location with good airflow for several days. Once properly dried, carefully shell the peanuts and inspect the seeds.

Discard any seeds that are damaged, shriveled, discolored, or malformed. Spread healthy seeds out on a flat surface and continue drying them for several additional days to ensure all moisture has been removed.

Store fully dried seeds in airtight containers such as glass jars or sealed bags. Label containers with the variety name and harvest date, then store them in a cool dry location away from direct sunlight until planting season.
