All American Parsnip is a dependable heirloom variety known for producing large, smooth, creamy-white roots with exceptional flavor and uniform growth. This reliable variety is easy to grow and highly popular among home gardeners for its sweet earthy taste and versatility in the kitchen.

The long tapered roots are excellent for roasting, soups, stews, purees, and hearty winter meals. Exposure to cool temperatures and frost helps improve the flavor, making parsnips especially delicious when harvested in late fall.

All American Parsnip grows best in loose fertile soil where roots can develop evenly and deeply. The plants are hardy, productive, and well suited for traditional gardens, homesteads, and long-term food storage.

This classic heirloom variety remains a favorite for gardeners seeking reliable harvests, nutritious root vegetables, and rich old-fashioned flavor.

How to Save Seeds

Parsnips readily cross-pollinate with other parsnip varieties, so keep different varieties separated by at least 500 feet to maintain seed purity.

Parsnips are biennial plants and typically produce seeds during their second year of growth. Allow healthy plants to remain in the garden through winter so they can continue growing the following season.

In the second year, plants will send up tall flowering stalks topped with umbrella-shaped seed heads.

Once the seed heads become brown and dry, cut them from the plant and place them into a labeled paper bag.

Shake the bag gently to release the seeds from the dried seed heads and remove any remaining debris or chaff.

Store cleaned seeds in a cool, dry place inside labeled envelopes or airtight containers away from moisture and direct sunlight until ready for planting.
