How to Save Seeds

Select healthy garlic bulbs for future planting stock. Choose bulbs that are firm, plump, disease-free, and free from damage or soft spots.

Carefully separate the cloves from the bulb while keeping the papery skins intact. Handle cloves gently to avoid bruising or damaging them before storage.

Allow the cloves to dry in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area for several days. Proper drying helps prevent mold, rot, and storage issues.

Store dried cloves in a cool dry location until planting time. Mesh bags, paper bags, or open containers work well because they allow for proper airflow and reduce moisture buildup.

Plant the healthiest cloves in early fall for the following season’s garlic harvest and continued seed stock production.
