Pillnitz Melon is a rare and beautiful heirloom muskmelon variety treasured for its sweet orange flesh, attractive coloration, and exceptional productivity. Originally associated with the historic village and castle of Pillnitz in Germany, this unique melon is rarely offered in the United States, making it a true gem for collectors and home gardeners alike.

The fruits begin with attractive green mottling that gradually transforms into a soft light yellow rind as they fully ripen. Inside, the melons reveal rich orange flesh bursting with juicy sweetness and excellent flavor. Their refreshing taste makes them perfect for fresh eating, fruit salads, desserts, and summer snacks.

Pillnitz Melon grows vigorously in warm sunny conditions and produces heavily throughout the season. With proper care, these plants reward gardeners with abundant harvests of flavorful melons that are both visually striking and delicious.

Rare, productive, and incredibly sweet, Pillnitz Melon is an outstanding heirloom addition to any garden seeking unique varieties and exceptional flavor.

How to Save Seeds

Melons will not cross with cucumbers or squash, but they will cross with other melon varieties. Muskmelons also do not cross with watermelons since they belong to separate plant families.

To maintain seed purity, separate melon varieties by at least one-quarter mile.

Allow fruits intended for seed saving to fully ripen on the vine. Once harvested, let the melons cure for several days before cutting them open.

Scoop out the seeds and follow standard cucumber-style seed fermentation and cleaning methods. Seeds are usually mature once the melon is fully ripe and ready to eat.
