How to Grow

Choose a sunny location: Caraway plants prefer full sun, so choose a location that gets at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Caraway plants grow best in well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Mix in compost or aged manure to improve the soil quality. Sow the caraway seeds in early spring or late summer. Scatter the seeds on the soil surface and cover lightly with soil. Keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate. Thin the seedlings: When the seedlings are a few inches tall, thin them to 6-12 inches apart to give them room to grow. Water regularly: Caraway plants need regular watering, especially during dry spells. Water deeply once a week, or more often if the soil is dry. Fertilize: Feed the caraway plants with a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Harvest the seeds: Caraway plants will produce seeds in their second year. Harvest the seeds when they turn brown and dry on the plant. Cut the seed heads and hang them upside down in a dry, well-ventilated area to dry completely. Once dry, remove the seeds from the heads and store in an airtight container.
