Minowase Daikon radish is a prized heirloom root vegetable admired for its exceptionally long ivory-white roots, crisp texture, and mild refreshing flavor. This elegant Asian radish variety creates a beautiful contrast in the garden with its bright white roots extending beneath lush emerald-green foliage that spreads gracefully above the soil surface.

The large tender roots offer a pleasantly mild sweetness with subtle peppery undertones that make them excellent for salads, pickling, stir-fries, soups, fresh slicing, and traditional Asian dishes. Their crisp juicy texture remains refreshing whether enjoyed raw, cooked, or grated into sauces and garnishes.

Minowase Daikon radish thrives in cooler weather conditions during spring and fall and performs best in fertile loose well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Consistent moisture and full sunlight encourage rapid healthy root development while helping maintain tender flavorful flesh. The deep taproots also help naturally loosen and aerate compacted soils, improving garden health overall.

Fast growing, versatile, and highly productive, Minowase Daikon radish remains one of the finest heirloom radish varieties for gardeners seeking crisp flavorful roots and reliable cool-season harvests.

How to Save Seeds

Radishes will readily cross-pollinate with other radish varieties, so proper isolation is important for maintaining seed purity.

Separate different radish varieties by approximately one-quarter mile whenever possible.

In northern climates, plant radishes for seed production in spring. In southern climates, fall planting is generally preferred for overwintering and seed development.

Allow flower stalks and seed pods to fully mature and dry on the plants. Once pods turn brown and dry, harvest and shell them to collect seeds for future planting.
