★ Organically grown on our farm
Musquée de Provence, also known as Fairytale Pumpkin, is a beautiful French heirloom prized for its deeply ribbed fruits, deep rich color, and exceptional culinary quality. A member of the Cucurbitaceae family, this traditional winter squash produces large, flattened fruits with thick, dense orange flesh. Its distinctive appearance and outstanding flavor make it a favorite among gardeners seeking both ornamental beauty and a versatile harvest for the kitchen.
The dense orange flesh has a rich, sweet flavor and smooth texture that becomes especially enjoyable when roasted or cooked. Musquée de Provence is excellent for pies, soups, stews, purees, roasting, baking, and other winter squash dishes. The mature fruits also store well, allowing gardeners to enjoy their harvest throughout the colder months when properly cured and stored.
This warm-season crop thrives in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter and performs best in full sun. The vigorous vines require plenty of room to spread and benefit from consistent moisture throughout the growing season, particularly during flowering and fruit development. Allow the fruits to mature fully on the vine before harvesting, and provide good air circulation around the plants to encourage healthy growth.
Beautiful, flavorful, and highly versatile, Musquée de Provence remains one of the finest French heirloom winter squash varieties for gardeners seeking exceptional culinary quality, impressive garden display, and a harvest that can be enjoyed well into the winter season.

How to Save Seeds
Musquée de Provence belongs to the Cucurbita moschata species and can cross-pollinate with other varieties within the same species. To maintain varietal purity, separate different Cucurbita moschata varieties by at least 500 feet whenever possible, or hand-pollinate and protect the flowers from insects.
Select healthy, vigorous plants and allow the fruits chosen for seed saving to remain on the vine until they are completely mature. The skin should become hard and fully developed before the fruit is harvested for seed production.
Harvest mature fruits before a hard frost and allow them to cure in a warm, dry location for approximately 7 to 10 days. After curing, cut the pumpkin open and remove the seeds and surrounding pulp.
Separate the seeds from the pulp and rinse them thoroughly. Spread the cleaned seeds on a screen or paper surface and allow them to dry completely, turning them regularly to ensure even drying. Once fully dry, store the seeds in a cool, dry location for future planting.
