The Seventop turnip, recognized for its abundant, leafy green tops, flourishes in well-drained soil under generous sunlight. Its lush leaves, growing up to half a meter tall, form a dense canopy that can beautify any garden into a lush oasis. These tender and resilient leaves are not only ornamental; they are a culinary gem, rich in nutrients with a hint of peppery flavor that enhances salads, soups, and stir-fries. Beneath these leafy greens lies the turnip itself, a humble, creamy white bulb that, though unassuming, offers a delicate, earthy taste when cooked or mashed.

Growing Seventop turnips is a joy for gardeners. Thriving in cooler climates, they are ideally planted in early spring or late summer. The small yet potent seeds are sown just below the soil’s surface, germinating swiftly to produce shoots that develop into the characteristic lush foliage. Regular watering and occasional fertilization support a thriving crop, but these turnips are generally low maintenance, making them a perfect choice for gardeners of all levels.

How to Save Seeds

Separate turnips from other plants in the Brassica Rapa family. Plants are biennial so will require overwintering with mulch or trim leaves to 2 inches above the bulb and store them in a root cellar in either damp sawdust or sand. Replant in spring and wait for them to flower; when pods dry out they are ready.
