Sweet Dumpling Squash is a charming heirloom winter squash prized for its beautiful cream-colored skin striped with green, sweet nutty flavor, and compact size. This delightful Cucurbita pepo variety produces small rounded fruits that are perfect for individual servings and decorative autumn displays alike.

The tender creamy flesh becomes wonderfully sweet when roasted and develops a rich buttery flavor that works beautifully in both savory and sweet dishes. Sweet Dumpling squash is excellent for roasting, stuffing, baking, soups, casseroles, and holiday meals. Its edible skin softens during cooking, making preparation simple and convenient.

This productive heirloom variety thrives in warm weather and fertile well-drained soil with full sun. Vigorous vines produce attractive fruits throughout the growing season, making Sweet Dumpling squash an excellent addition to home gardens, homesteads, and market gardens.

How to Save Seeds

Squash and pumpkins can readily cross pollinate with other varieties within the same species. Sweet Dumpling squash belongs to the Cucurbita pepo species, so separate it from other pepo varieties by at least 500 feet for maintaining seed purity.

Allow fruits to fully mature on the vine until fall harvest. Once harvested, let the squash cure for about one week in a dry location before removing the seeds.

Cut the squash open and scoop the seeds and pulp into a bowl of water. Wash the seeds thoroughly to remove excess pulp and debris.

Spread cleaned seeds onto paper towels or fine mesh screens and allow them to dry completely for about a week, turning occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even drying.

Once fully dry, store seeds in a cool dry location inside labeled envelopes or airtight containers until ready for future planting.
