Cimmaron Lettuce, also known as Cimarron Lettuce, is a stunning heirloom romaine variety prized for its rich burgundy-red coloring, crisp texture, and excellent flavor. The tall upright heads feature deep red to bronze outer leaves that gradually fade into vibrant green centers with creamy white ribs, creating a beautiful contrast in the garden and on the table.
This romaine-type lettuce produces large crispy leaves that can grow up to 12 inches long. Its tender texture and sweet mild flavor make it perfect for fresh salads, sandwiches, wraps, and gourmet dishes.
Cimmaron Lettuce performs exceptionally well in cool weather and shows impressive cold tolerance compared to many other lettuce varieties. It is slow to bolt and highly dependable for both spring and fall gardens.

How to Save Seeds
Lettuce is primarily self-pollinating, so separating different varieties by approximately 50 feet is generally sufficient for maintaining seed purity.
For overwintering and seed production, lettuce plants should ideally be established and about 2 inches tall before cold weather arrives. Growing schedules may vary depending on your climate and location.
Protect plants during winter by applying heavy mulch around the base. In the following growing season, plants will begin bolting and sending up tall flowering stalks that can reach 4-5 feet in height.
Once lettuce begins bolting, the leaves become bitter and are no longer suitable for eating. Flowers will gradually open over several weeks, followed by the development of feathery seed heads.
Watch carefully for mature feathery seeds and collect them by gently shaking the seed heads into a paper bag or container.
Allow collected seeds to dry thoroughly before storing them in labeled envelopes or airtight containers in a cool, dry, dark location for future planting seasons.
