How to Save Seeds
Okra is generally self-pollinating, though cross-pollination can occur between varieties when planted nearby. For maintaining seed purity, separate different okra varieties by up to 1 mile when possible.
Allow pods selected for seed saving to fully mature and dry on the stalk. Mature pods will become woody, brittle, and brown when seeds are ready for harvest.
Once dry, remove the pods from the plant and allow them to cure indoors for several additional days if needed.
Carefully crack open the hardened pods and remove the seeds by hand. Discard any damaged or immature seeds.
Allow seeds to dry completely before storing them in labeled envelopes or airtight containers in a cool, dark, dry location for future planting seasons.
