Golden Bantam Sweet Corn is one of the most beloved heirloom corn varieties ever introduced. First released in 1902 by W. Atlee Burpee & Co., this classic open-pollinated sweet corn quickly became famous for its rich old-fashioned flavor, tender kernels, and beautiful golden-yellow ears.

Unlike many modern hybrid corn varieties, Golden Bantam retains its open-pollinated heritage, allowing gardeners to save seed year after year while preserving its historic genetics and exceptional eating quality. The ears are packed with sweet juicy kernels that are delicious eaten fresh, grilled, canned, or frozen.

Golden Bantam performs best in full sun with fertile well-drained soil. Strong sturdy stalks produce flavorful ears that are typically ready for harvest in mid to late summer. Its dependable growth, excellent flavor, and historical significance make it a favorite among home gardeners and heirloom seed collectors alike.

A true taste of traditional sweet corn, Golden Bantam continues to stand the test of time as one of the finest heirloom corn varieties available.

How to Save Seeds

Corn cross-pollinates very easily with other corn varieties, so it is recommended to separate different varieties by at least one mile to maintain seed purity.

Allow ears to fully mature and dry on the stalk before harvesting seed corn. Harvest promptly once the kernels are fully dry to avoid weather damage or pest problems.

For healthy genetic diversity, collect seed from at least 100 separate corn plants whenever possible.

Once completely dry, rub kernels from the cob and store seeds in a cool dry location for future planting.
