The bright golden-yellow fruits are tender, buttery, and slightly nutty in flavor, making them a favorite among home gardeners, chefs, and market growers alike. Golden Zucchini is highly versatile and can be grilled, sautéed, roasted, baked, spiralized, or even enjoyed raw in fresh salads.

This vigorous summer squash grows quickly in warm sunny conditions and rewards gardeners with continual harvests when picked regularly. Its striking color also makes it a standout addition to farmers market displays and summer vegetable gardens.

How to Save Seeds

Squash varieties can easily cross-pollinate with other squash plants within the same species. There are four common squash species: Cucurbita pepo, Cucurbita maxima, Cucurbita moschata, and Cucurbita mixta. Varieties within the same species should be separated by at least 500 feet for pure seed saving.

Golden Zucchini belongs to the Cucurbita pepo family, meaning it can cross with other pepo squash varieties such as pumpkins, zucchini, and certain summer squashes.

Allow fruits intended for seed saving to fully mature on the vine well beyond the edible stage until the skin hardens completely. Mature squash should remain on the vine until late in the season whenever possible.

After harvest, allow the squash to cure for about one week in a dry location. Cut open the squash, scoop out the seeds and pulp, and place them into water to separate the seeds.

Wash seeds thoroughly and spread them onto a screen, drying rack, or paper surface. Turn seeds regularly to ensure even drying. Allow seeds to dry fully for approximately one week before storing them in a cool dry place for future planting.
