Golden Hubbard Squash is a classic heirloom winter squash prized for its exceptionally sweet, rich, and nutty flavor. This productive variety produces large fruits with a hard outer rind and vibrant orange flesh that becomes even sweeter after curing and storage.

The thick dense flesh is perfect for roasting, baking, soups, casseroles, and pies, making Golden Hubbard a favorite for fall and winter cooking. Its rich flavor and smooth texture make it one of the most versatile winter squash varieties available.

Golden Hubbard Squash stores exceptionally well when kept in a cool dry location, often lasting for several months after harvest. This makes it an excellent choice for gardeners seeking long-lasting winter food storage crops.

Easy to grow in warm sunny gardens, this vigorous squash variety produces sprawling vines and dependable harvests while providing excellent nutritional value including vitamins A and C, potassium, and dietary fiber.

How to Save Seeds

Golden Hubbard Squash belongs to the squash family and can cross-pollinate with other squash varieties within the same species. Squash varieties are grouped into four common species: Cucurbita pepo, Cucurbita maxima, Cucurbita moschata, and Cucurbita mixta.

To maintain pure seed stock, separate varieties within the same species by at least 500 feet. Always identify the species type of your squash before saving seeds to avoid unwanted cross-pollination.

Allow squash fruits to fully mature on the vine until fall. Once mature, cut the squash from the vine and allow it to cure in a dry location for approximately one week before opening.

Cut open the squash and scoop out the seeds and surrounding pulp. Place the seeds into water and gently wash away the remaining flesh.

Spread cleaned seeds onto a screen rack, tray, or paper towel in a warm dry location with good air circulation. Turn seeds regularly to ensure even drying.

Allow seeds to dry thoroughly for about one week before storing them in a cool dry place for future planting seasons.
