How to Save Seeds
Cabbage will cross-pollinate with other members of the Brassica oleracea family including broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and Brussels sprouts, so separate varieties by at least one mile for seed purity.
Because cabbage is a biennial crop, plants require overwintering before they will produce seed. In mild climates, heavily mulch plants through winter. In colder regions, carefully dig and store plants in damp sand at temperatures between 35-40°F.
Once spring arrives, replant the cabbage and allow the plants to bolt and flower. After seed pods form and fully dry on the plant, harvest the pods and collect the seeds for storage.
