How to Save Seeds
Peas are primarily self-pollinating plants, so separating different pea varieties by approximately 50 feet is generally sufficient to prevent unwanted cross-pollination.
Allow pods selected for seed saving to fully mature and dry on the vine. Mature pods will turn brown and brittle, and the dried peas inside will rattle when shaken.
Some gardeners prefer to pull the entire plant and allow it to continue drying in a protected location with good airflow, though this step is optional.
Once completely dry, shell the peas from the pods and remove any damaged or immature seeds.
Allow seeds to dry thoroughly before storing them in labeled airtight containers or envelopes in a cool, dark, dry location for future planting seasons.
