Mizuna Mustard is a beautiful traditional Japanese mustard green prized for its delicate feathery leaves, mild flavor, and quick growth. Unlike many mustard greens that have a strong spicy bite, Mizuna offers a much gentler flavor that is perfect for both fresh salads and cooked dishes.

This versatile heirloom green is especially popular as a tender baby leaf for salad mixes but is equally delicious sautéed, stir fried, added to soups, or lightly steamed. The attractive deeply cut foliage also adds ornamental beauty to garden beds and containers.

Mizuna grows quickly in cool weather and performs exceptionally well in spring and fall gardens. Its fast growth, mild flavor, and dependable productivity make it a favorite among home gardeners, market growers, and salad enthusiasts alike.

How to Save Seeds

Mustard greens will cross pollinate with other mustard greens within the same species, though not necessarily with all members of the mustard family. Be sure to identify the species before planting multiple varieties nearby.

For maintaining seed purity, separate compatible mustard varieties by at least 1 mile whenever possible.

Allow plants to fully mature and produce seed pods naturally. Once the pods have dried completely on the plant, harvest them carefully before they split open.

Dry harvested pods thoroughly if needed, then remove the seeds and store them in labeled airtight containers or envelopes in a cool dry location until ready for future planting.
