★ Organically grown on our farm

Red Burgundy Okra is a striking heirloom variety prized for its deep red pods, ornamental beauty, and outstanding culinary versatility. Developed by Leon Robbins at Clemson University in 1983, this unique okra variety produces vibrant crimson-red pods that stand out beautifully against green foliage veined with red.

Plants are highly productive and produce tender flavorful pods reaching 6 to 8 inches long. The mild rich flavor makes Red Burgundy Okra excellent for frying, grilling, pickling, gumbo, jambalaya, soups, stews, and fresh garden dishes. The beautiful red coloration also adds visual appeal to meals while indicating the presence of beneficial anthocyanin antioxidants.

This heat-loving heirloom variety thrives in warm sunny conditions and performs exceptionally well in Southern gardens, homesteads, and market gardens. An excellent choice for gardeners seeking both beauty and productivity in the vegetable garden.

How to Save Seeds

Okra is usually self-pollinating, though cross pollination can still occur between varieties. For maintaining seed purity, separate different okra varieties by up to 1 mile when possible.

Allow pods to fully mature and harden naturally on the stalk. Mature pods will become dry and woody as the seeds finish developing inside.

Once completely dry, harvest the pods from the plant and crack them open carefully to remove the seeds.

Allow seeds to dry thoroughly before storing them in labeled envelopes or airtight containers in a cool dry location until ready for future planting.
