Spring Rapini Broccoli Raab is a classic Italian heirloom variety prized for its tender flavorful florets and long productive harvest season. Unlike traditional broccoli that forms one large central head, this vigorous variety produces abundant smaller florets continuously over time when harvested regularly.
The delicious florets and leafy stems offer a rich slightly earthy flavor that is excellent for sautéing, steaming, pasta dishes, soups, stir fries, and traditional Italian cuisine. Frequent harvesting encourages even more side shoot production, providing extended harvests throughout the growing season.
Spring Rapini grows vigorously and can reach heights of 3 to 4 feet under favorable conditions. This productive heirloom performs best in cooler weather and makes an excellent addition to home gardens, raised beds, market gardens, and homestead plantings.

How to Save Seeds
Separate broccoli raab from other plants within the Brassica rapa family to maintain seed purity and prevent unwanted cross pollination.
Plants are biennial and require overwintering before producing seed. In milder climates, plants may be heavily mulched and left in the garden through winter.
In colder climates, trim the leaves back to approximately 2 inches above the crown and store the plants in damp sawdust or sand inside a cool root cellar over winter.
Replant the overwintered plants in spring and allow them to flower and form seed pods. Once the pods dry naturally on the plant, harvest them and remove the seeds for future planting.
