★ Organically grown on our farm

Texas Hill Country Red Okra is a striking and productive heirloom variety known for its large green pods beautifully streaked with vibrant red stripes. Native to Texas, this unique okra combines ornamental beauty with exceptional flavor, making it a favorite for both home gardens and market growers.

The tender pods have a delicious rich flavor and remain soft even at larger sizes compared to many traditional okra varieties. Plants grow vigorously and can reach heights of up to 6 feet tall, producing abundant harvests throughout the warm growing season.

This heat-loving variety thrives in hot summer weather and performs especially well in southern gardens. Its colorful pods and tall growth habit make it an attractive edible addition to vegetable gardens, homesteads, and ornamental edible landscapes.

Easy to grow and highly productive, Texas Hill Country Red Okra is perfect for frying, grilling, soups, stews, pickling, and fresh garden harvests.

How to Save Seeds

Okra is generally self-pollinating, though cross-pollination can occur between varieties when grown nearby. For maintaining seed purity, separate different okra varieties by up to 1 mile when possible.

Allow selected pods to fully mature and dry directly on the plant. Mature seed pods will become large, woody, and brittle when ready for harvest.

Once completely dry, remove the pods from the stalk and allow them to finish curing indoors for several additional days if needed.

Crack open the dried pods carefully and remove the seeds by hand. Discard damaged or immature seeds.

Allow seeds to air dry thoroughly before storing them in a cool, dark, dry location inside labeled envelopes or airtight containers for future planting seasons.
