Radicchio Rosso di Verona is a beautiful Italian heirloom chicory prized for its striking deep burgundy-red leaves and bright white veins. Originating from the Veneto region of Italy, this elegant radicchio variety forms compact elongated heads that resemble small cabbages and add outstanding color and texture to the garden and kitchen.
The flavor is pleasantly bitter and crisp when eaten fresh, becoming milder and slightly sweet when grilled, roasted, or sautéed. Rosso di Verona is highly valued in salads, risottos, pasta dishes, and gourmet culinary creations.
This cool-season crop performs especially well in fall and cooler weather, where the rich coloration intensifies and flavor improves. The plants are hardy, dependable, and easy to grow in fertile well-draining soil.
With its bold appearance, unique flavor, and versatility in the kitchen, Radicchio Rosso di Verona is an excellent addition to home gardens, specialty vegetable gardens, and gourmet food production.

How to Save Seeds
Keep radicchio separated from other chicories, endives, and radicchio varieties to prevent cross-pollination and maintain seed purity.
Allow the plants to flower fully during their second growing season. After flowering, small seed pods will begin forming along the stalks.
Once the seed pods turn brown and dry to the touch, harvest them carefully and place them into a labeled paper bag.
Shake the bag gently to release the seeds from the dried pods. Separate the seeds from any remaining chaff by pouring them onto a flat surface and lightly blowing away the lighter material.
Store the cleaned seeds in a cool dry location inside airtight containers or labeled envelopes. Properly stored radicchio seeds can remain viable for up to 5 years.
