Pink Cranberry Beans, also known as Borlotti Beans, are a beautiful heirloom bean variety prized for their striking pink and red streaked appearance, rich nutty flavor, and creamy texture. Originally from Colombia and popularized in Italian cuisine, these beans are excellent for soups, stews, pasta dishes, salads, and hearty homestead meals.

These productive bean plants produce attractive pods filled with flavorful beans that cook into a smooth creamy texture while absorbing seasonings exceptionally well. Their coloration softens during cooking, creating a beautiful creamy bean perfect for rustic dishes and traditional recipes.

Pink Cranberry Beans are not only delicious but also highly nutritious. They are rich in protein, fiber, iron, magnesium, and potassium, making them an excellent staple crop for home gardens, homesteads, and market growers.

Easy to grow and highly productive, this heirloom bean variety thrives in warm weather and produces dependable harvests for both fresh shelling and dry bean storage.

How to Save Seeds

Beans are primarily self-pollinating and rarely cross with other bean varieties, though occasional crossing can still occur.

If growing multiple bean varieties close together, planting different seed colors can help identify potential crossing during seed harvest. For maintaining seed purity, separate varieties by approximately 150 feet.

Allow pods to fully mature and dry completely on the plant before harvesting. After harvest, spread the pods out in a dry location for an additional week of curing.

Once fully dried, shell the beans, remove debris and damaged seed, and store the cleaned seeds in a cool dry location for future planting.
