How to Save Seeds

Saving Swamp Rose Mallow seeds is a wonderful way to preserve plants that perform especially well in your garden. Choose healthy plants with vigorous growth and attractive flowers, and allow the flowers to mature naturally on the plant after blooming.

After flowering, seed pods will begin developing. Leave the pods on the plant until they have matured and begin to dry and turn brown. Harvest the pods before they split completely open and release their seeds into the garden.

Place the harvested pods in a dry, well-ventilated location and allow them to finish drying completely. Once dry, gently open the pods and remove the small seeds. Separate the seeds from any remaining plant material and allow them to air-dry for several additional days if necessary.

Store completely dry seeds in a labeled envelope or airtight container in a cool, dry, dark location. Properly stored seeds can be saved for future seasons, allowing you to continue growing this beautiful native perennial and share its old-fashioned beauty with another generation of gardeners.
