China Rose Radish is a striking heirloom daikon-type radish treasured for its rosy pink skin, crisp texture, and pleasantly balanced flavor. Originating in China and cultivated for generations, this beautiful winter radish produces long cylindrical roots that can reach up to 8 inches in length.

Unlike intensely pungent radishes, China Rose offers a milder spicy bite paired with subtle sweetness, making it incredibly versatile in the kitchen. It is excellent sliced fresh into salads, pickled for a tangy crunch, or cooked in soups and stir-fries where its flavor becomes more mellow and savory.

This heirloom variety thrives in cooler weather and grows best in fertile well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Succession planting every couple of weeks helps provide continuous harvests throughout the growing season. Its vibrant appearance and dependable growth make it a favorite among home gardeners and heirloom vegetable enthusiasts.

China Rose Radish combines ornamental beauty, rich history, and delicious flavor into one easy-to-grow garden crop that deserves a place in every cool-season garden.

How to Save Seeds

Radishes readily cross-pollinate with other radish varieties, so separate different varieties by at least 1/4 mile to maintain seed purity.

In northern climates, plant radishes in spring for seed production. In southern climates, fall planting is preferred. Allow plants to overwinter if needed so they can send up flowering stalks the following season.

Once the seed pods dry and turn brown on the stalk, harvest them carefully and allow them to finish drying in a sheltered location.

After drying completely, shell the pods and store seeds in a cool dry place for future planting.
