Texas Grano 1015Y Onion is a famous sweet onion variety prized for its exceptionally mild flavor, large globe-shaped bulbs, and outstanding versatility in the kitchen. Developed for the warm southern climates of the United States, this heirloom-style onion has become a favorite among gardeners and cooks for its sweet juicy flavor and reliable production.

Known for its low sulfur content, Texas Grano 1015Y delivers a wonderfully sweet onion taste without the harsh bite commonly found in stronger onion varieties. The large golden bulbs can grow up to six inches across and are excellent for slicing onto sandwiches, salads, burgers, grilling, roasting, and countless cooked dishes.

This variety performs especially well in southern gardens where warm temperatures and long growing seasons allow the bulbs to size up beautifully. In addition to its excellent flavor, Texas Grano 1015Y stores well, allowing gardeners to enjoy sweet onions for months after harvest.

Easy to grow and highly productive, Texas Grano 1015Y Onion remains one of the best sweet onion choices for home gardens and market growers alike.

How to Save Seeds

Separate onions from other onion varieties by at least one-half mile to maintain seed purity.

A preferred seed-saving method is seed-to-seed production, where onions are grown from seed and allowed to remain in the ground through winter until flowering the following season.

Mulch plants heavily with hay or straw during winter protection much like garlic. During the second growing season the plants will send up tall flower stalks and eventually form seed heads.

Once black seeds become visible in the drying seed heads, cut and collect the heads. Multiple harvests may be needed as seeds mature over several stages.

    Great!

When looking for our seeds for this year, my husband and I wanted to prioritize a few things 1. Christian, 2. non-GMO/organic, 3. family owned 4. high quality. We were delighted to check every box with South Ga Seed Co. We were impressed with the variety of seeds, packaging, shipping time, and personalized note when our package arrived. We haven’t reaped the benefits of planting the seeds yet- but with the experience thus far we expect great yields!
