Yes heirlooms are more nutritious than hybrids.....

Most people know that heirloom vegetables, a.k.a heritage vegetables, are plants that have been passed down from generation to generation without any human intervention or modification. But hybrid vegetables, on the other hand, are created by cross-breeding different varieties to produce a new one with supposed wonderful traits such as hybrid vigor, or at least that's the story. But increasing studies have shown that heirloom vegetables generally have far more nutrients than their hybrid counterparts.

One reason for this is that heirloom vegetables are often grown in nutrient-rich soil that has not been depleted by years and years of intense farming. This allows the plants to absorb more nutrients, resulting in more nutrient-dense vegetables. Not only this, but hybrids themselves strain the soil annually often due the inherent increased yields, thereby diluting precious nutrients among the lot of vegetables harvested that year.

Another point is that heirloom vegetables are often allowed to ripen fully before being harvested, which can increase their nutrient content. Other factors that contribute to the higher nutrient content of heirloom vegetables is their genetic diversity. Because they have not been genetically modified or selectively bred for specific traits, heirloom vegetables contain a wider range of nutrients than hybrids.

Overall, while both heirloom and hybrid vegetables both have their benefits, choosing heirloom vegetable seeds can provide you with a more nutrient-dense option than store bought produce or even home grown hybrids. So the next time you're in the market for some garden seeds consider purchasing all heirloom varieties instead of their hybrid counterparts, which again studies have shown to often lack substantial nutrients when compared to heirlooms.

So yes according to various studies and just from what we've observed after growing them from year to year, heirloom vegetables are a healthier, and a more sustainable choice for those who are looking to improve their diet and support a more environmentally-friendly food system.
