Mr. Stripey Tomato is a beloved heirloom variety known for its enormous, beautifully striped fruits and wonderfully rich, sweet flavor. This old-fashioned tomato produces striking golden-yellow and orange-red fruits that are as attractive as they are delicious, making it a favorite among home gardeners and tomato lovers.

The large, beefsteak-type fruits have a mild, sweet flavor with a pleasing balance of acidity and are excellent for slicing fresh from the garden. Their colorful appearance makes them especially beautiful on summer salads, sandwiches, burgers, and tomato platters. Mr. Stripey is also delicious in fresh salsa, sauces, and other homemade dishes where the flavor of a truly ripe garden tomato can shine.

Mr. Stripey is an indeterminate tomato, meaning the plants continue producing new growth and fruit throughout the growing season. Provide fertile, well-drained soil, plenty of sunlight, and sturdy support such as a trellis or tomato cage. Consistent watering and regular harvesting will help keep plants productive throughout the summer.

With its large size, beautiful striping, and sweet old-fashioned flavor, Mr. Stripey is a wonderful choice for gardeners who appreciate unusual heirloom tomatoes with plenty of garden character. It is a particularly rewarding variety for the summer garden and a memorable addition to any heirloom tomato collection.

How to Save Seeds

Saving Mr. Stripey Tomato seeds is simple because tomatoes are primarily self-pollinating. Choose a healthy plant that produces the size, color, shape, and flavor you want to preserve, and allow several fruits to remain on the vine until they are fully ripe.

Select a fully ripe tomato and cut it open to collect the seeds and surrounding pulp. Place the seeds and pulp into a small container with a little water and allow the mixture to ferment for approximately three to five days. A light layer of fermentation on the surface is normal and helps separate the seeds from the gelatinous coating that surrounds them.

After fermentation, rinse the seeds thoroughly in clean water, removing the pulp and any seeds that float or appear damaged. Spread the clean seeds in a single layer on a non-stick surface and allow them to dry completely for several days. Turn them occasionally so they dry evenly.

Once completely dry, store the seeds in a labeled envelope or airtight container in a cool, dry, dark location. Properly dried and stored tomato seeds can remain viable for several years, allowing you to continue growing this beautiful heirloom season after season.
