How to Save Seeds

Celery will readily cross pollinate with other celery and celeriac family varieties, so separate different varieties by at least 1 mile for maintaining seed purity.

To overwinter celery for seed production, cut the plants down to a short stump and mulch heavily throughout winter. Remove the mulch in spring once temperatures begin to warm and new growth appears.

During the second growing season the plants will produce tall flower stalks followed by seed heads. Allow the seeds to fully mature and dry naturally on the plant before harvesting.

Once dry, cut the seed heads and store them in a cool dry location. Separate the seeds from the dried flower heads and place them into labeled envelopes or airtight containers for future planting.
