The "King of the Garden" beans, also known as pole lima beans, belong to the Fabaceae family; they are renowned for their large size and rich flavor. These beans are a favorite among gardeners due to their high yield and relatively easy growing conditions. The plants are vigorous climbers, often reaching heights of 8 to 10 feet; thus, they require strong support such as trellises or poles to thrive.
These beans are highly valued in culinary applications; they can be used fresh, frozen, or dried. Fresh King of the Garden beans are often boiled or steamed and served as a side dish; their creamy texture and nutty flavor make them a versatile ingredient in soups, stews, and casseroles. When dried, they can be stored for long periods and rehydrated for use in various recipes. In addition to their culinary uses, these beans are a good source of protein, fiber, and essential nutrients; they contribute to a balanced and healthy diet.

Limas can readily cross with other limas, so if you plan on growing to different varieties you must separate by at least one mile. Harvest when completely dried out, shell, and discard trash.
